EL PLOMO MOUNTAIN

Cerro El Plomo is a huge mountain, its altitude above 16,404 ft stands out in the mountainous landscape of the city of Santiago. It has interesting ascension routes, technical routes need experience in ice and snow and for the normal route, it does not require important mountain experience but you will be acclimated and have equipment for high mountain conditions.
This colossus, a watcher of the city, was considered by the Inca Empire as a sacred mountain, a sanctuary and part of the Inca trail, being possible to see on route Incan ruins. Near the summit, before arriving, in 1954 the Inca child was found, who was called “El niño del Plomo” (Plomo´s boy).
Outdoor PUYA invites you to participate in this great experience. Our long experience in the seven highest Chilean volcanoes, will make this a unique expedition to remember. Test yourself trying to climb this mountain or use for you process of acclimatisation.

DAY 1: SANTIAGO / PIEDRA NUMERADA 11,056 ft
In the morning we load our vehicles and drive to Valle Nevado Ski Resort, here the mules will helps us to carry our equipment and we will start the trekking to get the first camp “Piedra Numerada”. Camp will be set up in order to have dinner and rest.
DAY 2: PIEDRA NUMERADA / FEDERACIÓN 13,451 ft
Breakfast. Hike up towards to our Base Camp, this path was part of the Inca trail, where we will reach 13,123 ft, which will take around 5 hours. At the camp, you will stay at the comfortable Camp that is fully equipped with wide dinner tent to have meals. Dinner, discussed about summit day, equipment necessary. Rest.
Each member of the group - without exception - will carry the personal equipment for the summit day.
DAY 3: SUMMIT DAY
The big day! The group will get up around 3 am, have breakfast and start the climb. Once at the glacier we will put on the crampons, you have to use helmet and take the axe for cross approximately 492 ft on glacier. Return to “Federación” camp.
DAY 4: FEDERACION / SANTIAGO
Breakfast. Descent from “Federación” camp to Santiago. First we will load up all equipment of the expedition as well as the garbage produced during all the days spent on the height. Walk down to Valle Nevado, where the mules take down our equipment. Load the vehicles, drive to Santiago and drop off in your hotel (not included). End of our services. (Dinner is not included)
